Chicago !! GO GO !!

After looking through all candidates city in their website. According to the Chicago Tribune, Chicago’s bid is looking good. Although Tokyo was ranked first but Chicago has the potential to host the 2016 Olympic Games as well.

Chicago is my first choice followed by Tokyo as the last time North America had the Summer Olympics was 1996 Atlanta. Madrid is ruled out based on the fact Europe all-ready had the Olympics twice 2004 Athens and 2012 London. Rio de Janeiro sounds nice and it would be 1st time an Olympics wasn't held in Asia, Australia, Europe or North America, but wow all sorts of problems and concerns. From high crime to poor infrastructure to rampant corruption they just wouldn't be ready for an event of such scale and cost.

It's a long way from the Pan American Games to the Olympics in terms of not only building world class stadiums and venues, but also the transportation, housing and communication that is demanded for a world class event. Rio is not ready yet where as Chicago and Tokyo can not only host such an event, but are free of the political and economic turmoil that affects Brazil.

The least known Olympic sport in my opnion is...

...DECATHLON!

We all have heard of Biathlon, Triathlon but Decathlon seem like a lot of sports put together for an athlete to perform and excel on all of them. For the competition to take place, is necessary 2 days. Decathlon was intended to be a complete sport, this was the primary wish of its creator, Pierre de Coubertin. On the physical side - Swimming & Running are the basic disciplines; on the mental side – Shooting requires stress control and a precise technique; on the intellectual side – Fencing requires adaptability and intelligence; Riding an unknown horse requires a mix of adaptability, self-control and courage.

Here's the list of activities:
Running 100m
Long Jump
Shooting Put
High jump
Running 400m
Running Hurdle 110m
Discus
Pole vault
Javelin throw
Fencing
Swimming
Jumping ring

TOKYO - THEY ARE READY TO PUT UP A FIGHT!

After browsing through the official websites for each of Candidate city, I caved in, Tokyo's website is subperb!

Certainly is the most attractive website of the four I checked and it sure makes you want to click on everything you see in it. They used a creative, friendly cartoonish presentation that doesn't relate to the first thing that comes to my mind when thinking of Japan; traditional samurais images and fancy japanese handwritting, kanji. The map of the city with the animated cartoon caracters make the city look so easy to get around and not the huge city that it really is, with overwhelming skyscrappers and blinking signs.

In my list of favorites, Rio de Janeiro comes second, and do not get the impression that's because I come from Brazil - I would have chosen it as my number one if I was taking that in consideration. Surely the Brazilian website goes write to the point. The imagery is also amazing but that is not hard to achieve considering that Rio's best asset is its geographic beauty.

In the third position comes Madrid. I love the design and colors. There reason why I didn't "grade" this site better because it didn't find the information I was looking for as easily as the other websites.

And unfortunately, Chicago comes last. I was desappointed with the lack of animation and there's nothing that makes you go WOW! I really wish Chicago wins the bid and we can have the Olympic games right here but if the decision will be based on the Candidate city's website, Chicago is not winning.

We all want more people like Michael Phelps

Chicago would make a good Olympic team

A beautiful, compact games on the lakefrontwith the beautiful skyline as the backdrop. The village is situated so that 90 percent of athletes are 15 mins away from their competition venues, and 10 mins away from bustling downtown.. with beautiful parks, dining, museums and culture. A good use of existing facilities, while also creating new stadiums that will be downgraded after the games to be used for chicagoans.unlike the "white elephant “stadiums that go unused. Chicagoans are known for their love of sports. It has the two most influential people in OBama and Oprah, supporting the game. Chicago has crime, but is rarely seen in the downtown area and is not as bad as rio. Chicago has more convention space than any other city except for Las Vegas. More than double the amount of hotel space required by the IOC and at a lesser price than the other candiate cities. It has made a 2.5 billion dollar guarentee for the games, it needs to be noted that NO american city has ever lost money for an olympic games. Chicago is home to dining, sports, culture, music, and pride. I think it will make a fantastic city to host. I think many chicagoans fear that they will be footed with the bill, but the games give chicago a chance to make a big step on the world stage.

REASONS CHICAGO SHOULD HOST THE 2016 OLYMPICS

Certainly Chicago is going to host the 2016 Olympics. There’s no doubt about it. Chicago has so much to offer and certainly can exceed any expectations.

Reasons Chicago should host the 2016 Olympics:

WATERFRONT AREA - The Olympic Park area would be located on the lake front of Lake Michigan, with 29 miles of shoreline.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! - Chicago's location, central to the United States, is one of the great transportation hubs of the world. O'Hare Airport and Midway International Airport make air transportation into the city accessible. Mitchell Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is also a just over an hour away from Chicago. The city has extensive rail transit for transportation in and around the city.

SIGHTSEEING, GREAT HOTELS AND RESTAURANTS - The city, which rebuilt after the 1871 fire, has great architecture, fine hotels and restaurants and many cultural attractions. Participants who stay in the city may find that they are in walking distance to the Olympics and many other attractions.

CLEAN AIR – Chicago does not even make the top 20 on the US most polluted cities for smog list. Ask any athlete where they would prefer to compete and I guarantee they will choose the city where they can breathe.\

the Olympic host city

Chicago's 2016 Olympic bid and poster

Chicago would make a good Olympic host city
In my opinion, there are three reasons that I believe Chicago could make a good Olympic host city. First of all, Chicago has a good sightseeing with surrounding by a nice skyscraper, a great restaurant, a great shopping center in the city, and the nice entertainment place to visit. So the athletes can relax after a stressful competition. Visiting a nice place in Chicago is the greatest things that I believe the athletes will do after they‘re done competition.
Secondary, Chicago has a good arrangement of transportation system which is one of concern thing for the Olympic Games. There are all facilities and accommodation will help for transport the athletes to anywhere they want. There are buses, a train station, or Metra train station to take them to visit all around in Chicago.
Finally, Security system that Chicago can arrange for safety the player. Chicago is a friendly city that a lot of people in the world decided to visit. So means Chicago already has a safety security system. If Chicago will be a host city for the Olympic in 2016, they would have more arrangement security system to safety everyone in Chicago. Plus, Chicago will be more a good environment and friendly city to become a host city Olympic.

BRAZILIAN WITH MOST MEDALS

The Brazilian athlete that has won most medals is the sailor Robert Scheidt, 7 time world champion and gold medal in Atlanta/96 and silver in Sydney/2000.

At the age of nine, influenced of the father, Fritz Scheidt, Robert discovered sailing. His first competition happened two years later, but his start wasn’t promising: we got 42nd place in the Brazilian Championship. His hard work paid off not long after, in the following year he won the South American juvenile, in Algaborro, in Chile.

The Brazilian practiced other modalities in his adolescence. In an aptitude test he found other abilities in track and field, volleyball and tennis. Finally, at 17 he started to compete in the Laser class, the class that would bring him worldwide recognition.
